Blackie
Blackie

Died: Friday, September 1, 2023

Over the Rainbow Bridge. A few years ago this big guy would occasionally show up in our yard. I was scared of him – he would hiss and howl and throw himself at the window when he saw our kitties. He would run away when approached. He kept coming back so we would leave food for him. He disappeared for a while and when he showed up again he had a tipped ear so he had been TNRd. This time around he wouldn’t hiss or run away and would wait for us to come out. We built him a little house. He would faithfully come to the back door every morning and evening for breakfast and dinner. He would come running whenever he heard us open the door. He would follow behind us wherever we went in the yard. He made us fall in love with him. He didn’t eat his dinner Thursday evening and he didn’t come for breakfast Friday morning. He didn’t come running when I opened the door Friday afternoon. We found him behind the garden. We brought him in and stayed with him so he wouldn’t cross the bridge alone. Rest in peace buddy. We will forever be grateful to have known and been able to care for you and we will forever miss you.

“ Pumkin was the best little kitty. She was so loving and smart. Her favorite thing to do was climb her mommy’s leg and snuggle up under her chin. She loved to give kisses, head boops, get massages, and always wanted to sunbathe in the backyard. She loved to cuddle her favorite human boy and was with him until the very end. Her little meows will never be forgotten . She was the best little kitty girl and will be missed dearly. “

Forever Remembered

Cleo Trentham
Cleo Trentham

Died: Wednesday, November 14, 2018

Her name was Cleo. She crossed the Rainbow Bridge on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at approximately 3:10 P.M. and is at peace.

Cleo came to live with us on February 3, 2010 from the Norfolk SPCA. Only God knows when she was born. Her age was a mystery however one Veterinarian told us that she was probably between 15 and 17 years old.

Joanna noticed Cleo and something drew her to the little girl. We decided that she should come and live with us and with our other fur kid, Cesar.

Over time she lost all of her teeth and her hearing and she had eye issues that reduced her vision. Through all of this she remained a sweet loving girl who, like Cesar, was a devoted Mama's Baby.

Sometime around January 2018 Cleo's behavior changed. As the weeks passed it became apparent that she had Canine Cognitive Dysfunction which is similar to Alzheimer's Disease in humans. As time passed the Cleo that we knew faded as the disease progressed. We obtained medicine to help with her anxiety and agitation but as the weeks passed her dementia became a constant torment to her and it came time to let her go.

We remember the frisky Cleo who had never learned to play with toys but who enjoyed tossing a sock in the air. We remember Cleo doing her –œhappy dance.– We remember Cleo who wanted to be near Joanna and who put up with Cesar's attempts to engage her in play. We remember Cleo washing her face like a cat and dashing through the house chased by Cesar. We remember that she loved to take naps and had many unusual sleeping positions. We remember Cleo charging at the television barking at the tiger on the screen. We remember all of this and more.

I read somewhere a question about what is the hardest thing about having a dog in the family; the answer was –œsaying goodbye.– How true, how very true.
